JHS golfers Grace Dawson, Kelsey Wilde, and Abbie Gault were nominated to attend the “Swing For Success” event as part of the Solheim Cup festivities in August.
Farm Bureau Financial Services recently hosted a unique event designed to motivate and support female high school golfers. Swing for Success took place on Wednesday, August 16 in conjunction with Solheim Cup practice rounds at the Des Moines Golf and Country Club. The day kicked off with an inspirational message from 2005 U.S. Solheim Cup Team Captain and golf legend, Nancy Lopez. Then the golfers hit the course practicing their driving, chipping, and putting techniques under the watchful eyes of LPGA instructors. The day concluded with comments from 1996 and 1998 U.S. Solheim Cup Team Captain, Judy Rankin.
Grace Dawson, Abbie Gault and Kelsy Wilde, student athletes on the girls golf team, attended from Johnston High School. They were three of 33 girls selected to attend from 15 metro-area high schools.
“Our hope was that this experience would inspire these young golfers to dream big and hear first-hand that dreams can come true. It was a privilege to hear from a couple of the greatest female golfers of all time, who shared words of wisdom and encouragement.” said Nancy Wiles, Marketing Communications VP. “The young ladies who attended Swing For Success were engaged and all smiles and will likely always remember this once in a lifetime experience.”
Students who participated in Swing For Success were nominated by their coach or athletic director. In addition to the day itself, students had the opportunity to enjoy a day at the Solheim Cup courtesy of Farm Bureau Financial Services. And, two lucky young ladies were randomly selected to win a set of PING custom-fit irons.
