Mayor Paula Dierenfeld is challenging the community of Johnston for the third year in a row to help others in need.
Dierenfeld is pledging to run a mile for every bag of food, personal items or $10 contribution made to the Johnston Partnership. Her 'journey' will begin on Jan. 1.
Dierenfeld ran 316 miles thanks to community donations made in late 2016. The new challenge began Dec. 1 and continues through Dec. 30.
Financial contributions will help the partnership's food pantry purchase items in bulk and at heavily reduced prices. Donations may be made online.
Suggested items for those who want to give needed supplies include:
- Personal Items: Toilet paper, laundry detergent, facial tissues, deodorant, shampoo and diapers.
- Food: Fresh and nutritious produce or healthy, non-perishable items that are not expired.
Donations may be taken to one of three locations: Johnston City Hall, 6221 Merle Hay Road; Johnston Public Library, 6700 Merle Hay Road; or the Johnston Partnership office, 5870 Merle Hay Road, Suite D.
