The Johnston Police Department held their monthly Coffee with a Cop event Dec. 2 at the Johnston Hy-Vee.
In coordination with the City of Johnston and the Johnston Partnership, the JPD has been making themselves available to the general public to continuing to grow their relationships with the community they serve.
This past Saturday, the JPD brought in a special guest to bring Johnston citizens some extra good cheer, Santa.
Children from around the community of Johnston and beyond were in attendance to speak with the big man himself as well as to enjoy milk and cookies. The JPD was happy to have Santa this weekend to bring smiles to children and families as the community continues to get into the holiday spirit.
The City of Johnston has been working tirelessly through online campaigns promoting community involvement with both the local police departments and fire departments. Coffee with a Cop is an ongoing campaign that is promoted through the Johnston Police Department Facebook page as well as by the City of Johnston’s social media.
Communications Specialist Janet Wilwerding with the City of Johnston has been very busy over the past few months pushing these organizations through different social media platforms, which has single-handedly increased participation at local events, like Coffee with a Cop.
Wilwerding is the fingers and brains behind viral videos with both the PD and FD in the area, but the real success story is seeing citizens of participating communities smiling with the officers.
“It was a great time had by all,” said Leslie Lindeman, an area resident. “Thank you so much to the JPD, Hy-Vee and Santa!”
