Four students at Johnston High School have been named Commended Students in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Marianne Aldrich, Angela Cai, Milind Jetty and Parul Srivastava all merited the recognition with a remarkable level of performance for their grades, said Ryan Woods, the Johnston High School principal.
The special recognition is given only to students who placed in the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.6 million students who took the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. There were 34,000 commended students selected across the country.
"These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation," according to a spokesperson for the National Merit Scholarship Program.
