Victor Paul Stein was born July 27,1941 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Carl and Irma Stein. He graduated from Xavier High School in 1959 while working odd jobs to pay for his own tuition. He earned a degree in Industrial Management in 1972 by attending night classes through the University of Cincinnati for 11 years. He valued education and was the only Stein to receive a college degree. While in Cincinnati he worked for Globe Wernicke and Proctor and Gamble. In 1971 he moved his family to Iowa to work for Hon Industries while finishing his degree online. In 1974 he began his career working for General Growth Properties as a project manager. Through the years he was involved in numerous mall developments, however, he was most proud of his final project Jordan Creek Town Center. He retired as Vice President of Development in 2004 just after the opening of Jordan Creek.
As a junior in high school he met Gail Hentz at a spring formal. As Vic put it, “May 9,1958 became the first day of the rest of my life.” They were married 4 years later on June 30, 1962. They celebrated 56 years of marriage and modeled what commitment and true love was. Together they raised three daughters and Vic became a pro at playing barbies and teaching girls to fish. Vic loved life and his family and always shared his faith and trust in God’s plan for our lives. When he wasn’t with his family he could be found tinkering with one of his many Apple technology devices!
Vic is survived by the love of his life, Gail, 3 daughters; Elizabeth (Bruce) Lefkow, Polk City, Iowa; Donna (Terry) Huseman, Clive, IA; Julia (Jim) Roegiers, Urbandale, IA; nine grandchildren-Katie Lefkow, Laura Eslinger, Lindsey Lefkow, Alex Lefkow, Allison Huseman, Jacob Huseman, Sam Roegiers, Emily Roegiers, Anna Roegiers; two great grandchildren-Evelyn Eslinger, Ella Eslinger; and his sister Anita McLaughlin. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Shirley and brother Allan.
