Only 63.5 percent of Timber Ridge Elementary students feel physically safe at school, according to the Iowa School Performance Profiles website.
Iowa School Performance Profiles is a state government website designed to inform educators and parents about Iowa schools and school districts. In order to remain in compliance with the Every Student Succeeds Act, the site reports information about important education indicators hoping to aid conversations about the challenges confronting Iowa schools.
One type of indicator of academic success is the students' own perception of their school and the school environment. In order to gauge this, students throughout the state are asked to complete a survey designed to evaluate the conditions for learning. Research has shown that students' academic success suffers when they do not feel safe at school. Among other things, the Conditions for Learning Survey asks students whether they feel physically and emotionally safe at school.
Only 38.9 percent of students at Timber Ridge Elementary reported feeling emotionally safe at school, and 63.5 percent gave positive responses when asked whether they feel physically safe.
The table below shows how students in different programs or demographic categories perceived their own emotional and physical safety at the school and how this compares to state averages.
