The Child and Adult Care Food Program is a USDA Child Nutrition Program that provides child day care homes and centers the resources needed to serve nutritious meals and snacks to children while fostering lifelong healthy eating and physical activity habits. USDA revised the meal pattern to ensure children have access to a greater variety of vegetables, fruits, more whole grains, and less sugar and saturated fat.
This free training day is intended for Home Sponsors and will be a "Train the Trainer" event! Home Sponsors may bring any of their staff that work directly with CACFP and Home Providers. Attendees will receive the education and training resources needed to train your Home Providers. Topics covered during this interactive training day will include:
Identifying whole grain rich foods
Using the grain bread chart
Serving meat/meat alternate at breakfast
Meeting the fruit and vegetable requirements
Meal planning with the new CACFP Shopper app
CACFP best practice menu ideas
Managing special diets
Attendees will be eligible to receive an $800 training grant for training their Home Providers. The $800 grant money will be reimbursed after the training session occurs. Grant money can be used for passing funds along to participating Home Providers, for training supplies, a training facility, or even nutrition education toolkits.
Check-in starts at 7:45 and the training will be from 8:30-4:30 PM. Mileage reimbursement ($0.39 per mile) and sub-pay up to $80 is available. Lunch will be on your own.
