A $500 grant from Next Gen Personal Finance will go to Addie May, a junior at Johnston Community High School, who received the Financial Literacy Student of the Year award.
May competed with approximately 85 other students who completed a course in financial concepts taught by business teacher Kayla Bousum. Next Gen Personal Finance created the curriculum covered in the class, furthering its mission to “improving the financial lives of the next generation of Americans,” according to the school’s website.
May’s essay on how she was implementing what she learned in Bousum’s course won her the award. As the school’s website says, she plans to save the money for college expenses.
